The Seniors Section is a

friendly, welcoming group integral to the Club. There are currently about 100 members who participate in a host of golfing activities. The minimum age for joining is 55, in line with the general requirement for formal competitions and team matches. Handicaps and ages within the section are varied with no upper limits. All male club members over 55 are welcome to join. The mix of members is broad, but the Seniors’ are united by a friendly, sociable and inclusive atmosphere both on and off the course.
The golf is relaxed, but played in a competitive spirit and with due respect for the rules and protocols of the game.

There is an annual subscription (currently £5) to cover administrative expenses, which can be paid directly to the Treasurer or put in the Seniors’ communications box to the right of the notice board in the Gents changing room (please mark your name and contact details on the brown envelopes available for your use).

A varied programme of matches and competitions is held throughout the year, with entry available to all Seniors Section member which are managed by the Seniors Competitions Secretary, full details of all competitions are published on the Seniors noticeboard and include:

1.    
The Yarworth Cup,
an 18 hole singles match-play competition;

2.    
The Yarworth
Plate for those defeated in the first round of the Yarworth cup;

3.    
The Fraser
Tankards, a pairs competition played over the summer in a 4 ball better-ball format and

4.    
The Corless Goblets,
a Greensomes competition played over the winter months.

5.    
There are 4
“Tankards” competitions held during the season.

The winner of each of the 4 Tankards qualifies for the “Champion of Champions” playoff which is held at the
end of the season, together with the winners of the Yarworth Cup, Senior Captain’s day, Senior Captain’s Away Day, Seniors International and two nominated Seniors Slot (Monday).

The opportunity also exists to play in a programme of inter-club matches. Senior members can indicate their willingness to participate through the ClubV1 app. Instructions are also displayed on the Seniors Section noticeboard in the Gents changing room. If you require any help with this then please contact the Seniors’ Captain or Vice-Captain who will be more than happy to help out.

Less formally, the Section also holds friendly competitions most months, on a Monday, which are called “Seniors Stableford” on the TeamUp app. These provide an opportunity for Seniors, new and old, to mix and get to know each other. Sign up sheets go up in advance and playing groups randomly selected and given a tee time. These will be advised via email from the Pro shop.

The golfing year is usually kicked-off by the annual Seniors’ Captain v Vice-Captain match.

The Seniors Section competitions and matches are in addition to the WGC competitions for Senior and Veteran members.

Finally, the Seniors’ Section hosts a programme of very well supported “Open” competitions through the Summer. Details are available under the “Visitors” section of the Club website. 

The annual programme is organised by a hard working group of volunteers. 

The group meets formally about 5 times per annum and reports to an Annual General Meeting of all members in February.

In practice much communication takes place informally and via Seniors notice-boards in the Gentlemen's Locker Room. The very few problems that arise are dealt with promptly and sensitively.
